Year 6/Dosbarth Chwech
Shwmae! Hello and a warm welcome to Year 6!
This Spring term, we are continuing our exciting journey as the oldest learners in the school. In Year 6, we place a strong focus on developing independence, resilience and confidence as we prepare for the next chapter of our learning. Our approach encourages pupils to think deeply, ask meaningful questions and learn through enquiry. We enjoy working collaboratively, tackling challenges and solving problems using creative and logical thinking. This term will give us lots of opportunities to explore new ideas, challenge ourselves and grow as reflective, determined learners.
Here are some of the brilliant things we’ll be exploring this term:
🏴 Wales: Then and Now
We will be learning all about Wales in the past and comparing it with Wales today. Through research, discussion and enquiry, we’ll explore how life has changed, what has stayed the same and what this tells us about our history, identity and culture.
🏛️ Trip to St Fagans
One of our highlights this term will be our visit to St Fagans. This hands‑on experience will help bring our learning to life as we explore historical buildings, traditional crafts and stories from Welsh history.
🪵 Woodwork – Designing and Making Boxes
In our creative design work, we will be developing practical skills using woodwork tools to design and build our own wooden boxes. This will help us develop precision, patience and problem‑solving as we measure, saw and construct.
🎨 Exploring Welsh Artists
We will also be studying a range of Welsh artists, exploring their styles and techniques, and using their work as inspiration for our own creative pieces.
➗ Challenging Ourselves with Maths Problem‑Solving
In maths, we’ll be pushing ourselves with higher‑level problem‑solving tasks. We’ll be strengthening our reasoning skills, working systematically and explaining our thinking clearly as we tackle increasingly complex challenges.
