Shwmae! Croeso — hello and welcome to our Year 4 page!
This Spring term, we are excited to continue our new way of teaching and learning, where independence, resilience and creativity are at the heart of everything we do. In Year 4, we give children the chance to explore ideas, think for themselves, solve problems and work collaboratively. Through hands‑on learning, rich discussions and imaginative tasks, our pupils are growing into confident, curious learners who aren’t afraid to challenge themselves.
Here’s a look at the exciting learning journey ahead this term:
📘 Non‑Chronological Reports – Ebbw Vale Steelworks
We will be researching the history and importance of the Ebbw Vale Steelworks and using our findings to write clear, engaging non‑chronological reports. This will help us develop our research skills, note‑taking, and informative writing.
🎨 Valerie Ganz Art Study & Competition
As part of our Welsh arts focus, we will be learning about the life and work of Welsh artist Valerie Ganz. After exploring her style and techniques, we will create our own artworks inspired by her pieces and enter them into a special art competition.
➗ Multiplication and Division in Maths
In maths, we will be strengthening our understanding of multiplication and division. We’ll be using practical methods, times‑tables fluency activities and problem‑solving challenges to deepen our confidence and accuracy.
⛪ Community and Our Local Church (RE)
Our RE lessons will explore the idea of community and the special role our local church plays. We’ll be discussing what makes a community, how people support each other, and why places of worship are important.
🤝 Teamwork & Creating Our Own Games in PE
PE this term will focus on teamwork, communication and creativity. We will be designing and developing our own games, thinking carefully about rules, fairness, challenge and fun.
🗣️ Welsh – Describing Ourselves
In Welsh, we’ll be practising how to describe ourselves, talk about our likes and dislikes, and build confidence using full sentences. Dw i’n hoffi dysgu Cymraeg!
🪵 Welsh Love Spoons – Design & Clay Work
As part of our cultural learning, we will be exploring the tradition of Welsh love spoons, learning what the symbols mean, and designing our own. We will then bring our ideas to life in the clay area.
🌍 Comparing Wales and Italy (Humanities)
In Humanities, we will be comparing Wales and Italy, looking at landscapes, culture, food, traditions and daily life. We’ll be developing our geographical skills and learning how different places can be both unique and similar.
