Year 3/Dosbarth Tri
Shwmae! A very warm welcome to Year 3!
This term in Year 3, the children have been developing their creativity and confidence across a wide range of subjects through engaging and meaningful learning experiences.
In Literacy, our work has been inspired by Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The children enjoyed watching the film to support their imagination and understanding, using it as a stimulus to plan and write their own adventure stories. They have been focusing on improving their sentence starters, using more adventurous and precise vocabulary, and organising their ideas clearly. The children planned their stories carefully using key elements such as the beginning, setting, problem, solution and ending, before writing their own imaginative narratives. They have worked hard to include descriptive language, varied sentence structures, and accurate punctuation, taking pride in their writing.
In Maths, we have been learning about money and how it is used in real life. The children have developed their understanding of pounds and pence, recognising coins and notes, and practising how to add and subtract amounts. They have also been learning to convert between pounds and pence, compare values, and work out change. These practical skills are helping children build confidence and independence when applying maths to everyday situations.
In Religious Education, we have been learning about the Holy Spirit and the importance of the Church. The children wrote thoughtful prayers and reflected on their own beliefs and feelings. They have also explored the features of a church, discussing why people attend and how we show respect and reverence in this special place. This has helped to deepen their understanding of faith and community.
In Science, we have been exploring plants and their life cycles. The children have been identifying and labelling the different parts of a plant and learning how plants grow and change over time. As part of this learning, we have been planting in our outdoor area, giving children the opportunity to take responsibility for caring for living things and understanding their needs.
Across the wider curriculum, the children have enjoyed a variety of creative and practical activities. These include art inspired by different artists, working with clay, sewing and creating bracelets, and using digital tools to design and improve their own projects. They have also been thinking about how we promote peace in school, reflecting on positive actions and the role we all play in creating a caring and respectful environment.
It has been a busy and exciting term, with the children showing enthusiasm, creativity, and growing independence in their learning.
