Year 3/Dosbarth Tri
Shwmae! A very warm welcome to Year 3!
Welcome to the Year 3 class page!
Our Year 3 team consists of Mrs Lloyd, Class Teacher, supported by Miss Stokes and Miss Fry, Teaching Assistants.
We are committed to providing a calm, nurturing and purposeful learning environment in which all pupils feel valued, supported and confident to develop as independent learners. Our classroom has been carefully organised to provide a range of stimulating learning areas, allowing pupils to explore their interests, develop practical skills and take increasing responsibility for their own learning.
Our learning areas include:
Clay – developing creativity, imagination and fine motor skills.
Block Play – promoting construction, problem-solving, collaboration and mathematical thinking.
Cooking – developing practical skills and an understanding of healthy choices.
Art and Craft – encouraging creativity and self-expression through a range of media and techniques.
Sewing – developing concentration, coordination, perseverance and practical skills.
Reflective Area – providing a quiet space for reflection, discussion and independent thought.
Woodwork – developing practical skills, creativity, problem-solving and an understanding of how to use tools safely.
Through these areas, pupils are encouraged to make choices, follow their interests and work independently, while developing the skills, confidence and resilience needed to become successful lifelong learners.
Our Topic – All About Me
Our topic this term is ‘All About Me’. Through this theme, pupils will have opportunities to develop their understanding of themselves, their friendships, their community and the world around them.
Literacy, Language and Communication
Within LLC, pupils will develop their writing skills through the creation of autobiographies about themselves and their friends. They will learn to select and organise relevant information, develop their vocabulary and communicate their ideas clearly for different purposes.
Humanities
In Humanities, pupils will explore their local environment, with a particular focus on Ebbw Vale and the surrounding area. They will develop their knowledge and understanding of the local community and investigate the features and characteristics of the environment in which they live.
Science and Technology
In Science, pupils will investigate life cycles, growth and healthy living. They will explore how living things grow and change and develop an understanding of the importance of making healthy choices and looking after their wellbeing.
RE
In RE, pupils will explore the life of Jesus, considering key events from his life and developing their understanding.
Mathematics and Numeracy
In Mathematics and Numeracy, our focus will be on place value. Pupils will develop their understanding of the value of digits within numbers and apply this knowledge through practical activities, reasoning and problem-solving.
Harvest
As we approach half-term, pupils will learn about the importance of Harvest and the tradition of giving thanks for the food and resources we have. We will be preparing for our Harvest Festival and pupils will have the opportunity to compose and perform their own Harvest poems.
We look forward to an exciting and purposeful term of learning, during which our pupils will be encouraged to explore, create, collaborate and develop their independence and confidence.
