Year 1/Dosbarth Un

Croeso i Ddosbarth 1

Our Year 1 class provides a warm, nurturing, and stimulating environment where children feel safe, valued, and excited to learn. We understand that the transition into Year 1 is an important milestone, and we place great emphasis on building confidence, resilience, and strong social skills from the very beginning. Children are encouraged to see themselves as capable learners who are willing to try new things, take sensible risks, and understand that making mistakes is a natural and important part of learning.

Through a carefully balanced mix of engaging adult-led activities, purposeful learning through play, and focused group tasks, pupils are supported to challenge themselves and persevere when learning feels tricky. Our classroom offers rich, hands-on experiences that spark curiosity and encourage children to explore, question, and think creatively. Whether working independently, in pairs, or as part of a small group, children are guided to develop concentration, independence, and a positive attitude towards learning.

Collaborative activities play a key role in daily classroom life. They help children build positive relationships, practise effective communication, and learn how to listen, share ideas, and work respectfully with others. We explicitly teach and model kindness, empathy, and cooperation, supporting pupils to resolve disagreements calmly and develop strong friendships.

Alongside this, targeted focus group work allows teachers to carefully assess and respond to individual needs. Through tailored support and thoughtful challenge, we ensure that every child is both supported and stretched appropriately. By celebrating effort as well as achievement, we help children develop pride in their progress and a strong sense of accomplishment. Our aim is for every child to leave Year 1 feeling confident, capable, and ready for the next stage of their learning journey.
