Year 5/Dosbarth Pump

Shwmae a chroeso i Dudalen Blwyddyn 5!

This term, Year 5 have been fully engaged in a wide range of exciting and creative learning opportunities across the curriculum.

In literacy, the children are exploring The Invention of Hugo Cabret, using the text as inspiration to develop their own ideas and creativity. They are working towards writing their own original stories, focusing on rich vocabulary, descriptive language and engaging narratives. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they experiment with imaginative ideas.

In mathematics, we have introduced our new approach, Primed for Success. This is supporting the children in becoming more independent learners and confident problem-solvers. They are encouraged to think deeply, explain their reasoning and approach challenges with resilience and determination.

In science, we are investigating forces, where children are exploring how different forces act on objects and influence movement. Through practical investigations and hands-on experiments, they are developing their enquiry skills and strengthening their scientific understanding.

Our creative curriculum continues to flourish. In Art, we are studying the work of Brian Selznick, using his distinctive illustrative style as inspiration for our own pieces. The children are developing their sketching techniques and learning how images can be used to tell powerful stories.

In Design and Technology, we have been learning practical skills such as crochet and sewing. The children are currently creating their own picnic blankets and bottle holders, demonstrating creativity, perseverance and pride in their work.

Our STEM learning has been a real highlight this term. The children have been building circuits, exploring 3D printing and developing their coding skills using LEGO Spike kits. These activities promote teamwork, curiosity and a strong interest in technology and engineering.

Overall, it has been a busy and rewarding term so far, and we are very proud of the children’s enthusiasm, creativity and commitment to their learning.
